ManManPemba
A popular online local guide for Port-au-Prince and Haiti
Overview #
ManManPemba project was the โYelpโ for Haiti and Port-au-Prince. It was a website, completed by an iOS and Android app with GPS enabled nearby search, where users could find info and reviews about local businesses and events in Haiti. There was also a weekly newsletter โ the ManManPemba Weekly โ covering Haiti’s best new local spots, user reviews, and urban life.
Initially this project required to manually geo-localize thousands of local places in Port-au-Prince, at a time where there was near to ZERO data, even on Google Maps.
The project attracted a unique community of people living in Haiti and in the Haitian Diaspora, but did not survive the unfortunate events that occured in Haiti since 2020. I shut down the site and the app. It was an opportunity to learn Wordpress, PHP, mobile app development and management.
